Home Learning
At Millbrook Junior School we expect the children to complete learning at home. Much of the home learning is completed online. Our children have their own log in details for this and know how to access the different platforms.
In order to access the different platforms, the learning links can be found on the school’s website: https://www.millbrookjuniors.co.uk/useful-weblinks.
They can also be accessed on the learning links document, which is on each child’s Google Classroom page under the topic ‘Home Learning’.
Reading:
Children will have access to the library in a lesson and during some lunch times. They should be reading at least three times a week for 20 minutes. It is expected that their reading is recorded in their planner. They will need to quiz when they have completed the book.
This can be done through Accelerated Reader. This must be accessed through our school link.
The children can also access books and quiz on them through myON. There will also be ‘assignments’ on there, which they can access and use. This is a collection of books selected by the teacher, which are linked to children’s learning that half term. The books here will be a variety of levels. Children should read at least one book from here each half term.
Handwriting:
For Year 4, 5 and 6, tasks will be sent home weekly in the children’s handwriting folders. These should be completed in black pen and returned to school every Friday. The handwriting scheme that we follow is called Letter-Join and to access this scheme at home please use the login found inside your child’s school planner.
Maths:
Maths Flex links in with the Maths learning in class. The children work through their pathway and complete nuggets (recommended three for Year 3, four for Year 4, five for Year 5 and six for Year 6 per week).
TT Rock Stars is used to work on time tables (approximately 15 minutes per week).
Other message and information will also appear on Google Classroom over time.
Optional Home Learning:
There are optional tasks that children can complete if they wish. These tasks can be found on Google Classroom at the beginning of each term and due dates are also in the children’s planners (as outlined below). These tasks will need to be recorded in planners and they should share what they have completed with their class teacher. Optional Home Learning tasks are not limited to the activities on Google Classroom and could be presented in any format that your child chooses.

Children that go above and beyond with their Home Learning may be selected for a visit to ‘The Hut’ with Mrs Warren.
All classes will receive a Home Learning reward every Friday. Children who have not completed all tasks will not be able to take part in the reward.
Home Learning can be started on a Saturday and must be completed by Friday 7.30 am.
The Computing Hub is available during Friday lunch time only to catch up on any missing elements of Home Learning, before the class reward in the afternoon.
The children will also have the opportunity to visit the Reading Hub at lunchtimes.
